What Our Vehicle Check Covers

A thorough, data-driven assessment covering every aspect of a vehicle's MOT testing history and current standing.

Complete Test Archive

Every MOT test since 2005, presented in chronological order. See exactly what happened at each annual inspection — the full story, not a summary.

Mileage Integrity Check

Our algorithm cross-references mileage at each test to calculate average annual usage and flag any readings that break the expected pattern — the most reliable way to detect clocking.

Defect Severity Mapping

Every defect categorised as Advisory, Minor, Major, or Dangerous. Colour-coded so you can instantly see the seriousness of each item found during inspection.

Component Health Tracker

Defects organised by vehicle system — brakes, steering, suspension, lighting, body structure, emissions. Spot which systems have caused the most problems over the vehicle's life.

Statistical Overview

Pass rate percentage, total tests, total failures, most common defect categories, and average annual mileage — key metrics at a glance for quick assessment.

Current MOT Certificate

Verify whether the vehicle holds a valid MOT right now. See the exact expiry date and days remaining so you know if it is legal to drive today.

When to Run a Vehicle Check

A vehicle check is valuable in several situations — not just when buying.

Before buying a used vehicle

The most important time to check. Verify mileage, assess mechanical history, and identify hidden problems before you hand over money.

Before your MOT is due

Review last year's advisories to understand what might fail this time. Fix known issues before the test to avoid the hassle of a retest.

When selling your vehicle

Know your own vehicle's history so you can answer buyer questions honestly. A clean MOT record is a strong selling point you should highlight.

When checking a vehicle you already own

Confirm your MOT expiry date, check if advisories from previous tests have been addressed, and track your vehicle's mileage record over time.

Vehicle Check — FAQ

Answers to common questions about our vehicle checking service.

What does a vehicle check include?
Our vehicle check includes full MOT testing history from 2005 onwards, mileage readings at every test with anomaly detection, pass/fail outcomes with detailed defect descriptions, advisory notices categorised by severity, component-level failure tracking, overall pass rate statistics, and vehicle specifications (make, model, year, engine, fuel type, colour). It is one of the most thorough free vehicle checks available in the UK.
Do I need a VIN number?
No. You only need the vehicle's UK registration number (number plate). Our system looks up the vehicle using the registration and retrieves all available MOT and vehicle data from the DVSA and DVLA. A VIN is not required and is not used in our lookup process.
What types of vehicles can I check?
You can check any vehicle that is subject to MOT testing in the UK. This includes cars, vans, motorcycles (over 3 years old), motorhomes, and light commercial vehicles. Heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) use a different testing system and are not covered by this service. Classic vehicles registered before 1977 are also exempt from MOT.
How accurate is the vehicle data?
The data comes directly from the DVSA (Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency) and DVLA — the same official sources used by the GOV.UK services. It is updated in real time. Our additional analysis (mileage anomaly detection, pass rate statistics, component tracking) is calculated from this official data using our own algorithms.
Should I get a vehicle check before buying a used car?
Absolutely. A vehicle check is one of the most important steps in the used car buying process. It helps you verify the true mileage (the most common fraud in the UK used car market), identify hidden mechanical problems, assess the overall maintenance history, and negotiate a fair price based on the vehicle's real condition rather than its cosmetic appearance.
