Cookie Policy

Last updated: 19 May 2026

1. What are cookies

Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your device when you visit it. They let the site remember things like your session, your preferences, or whether you reached us through a particular link. We also use a couple of similar browser storage mechanisms (such as localStorage and sessionStorage) for the same purpose; for simplicity we refer to all of these as "cookies" in this policy.

2. Cookies we use

2.1 Essential cookies

These cookies are required for the website to work. They cannot be disabled in our settings because the site will not function correctly without them.

  • __stripe_* — set by Stripe during checkout for fraud prevention and to keep your payment session secure. Lifespan and exact names are controlled by Stripe.
  • mc_session — a session identifier so we can deliver a paid report back to the same browser that purchased it. Expires when you close the browser.
  • _mc_gclid — stores the Google click identifier from a paid ad click so we can attribute a later purchase to the click that drove it. Lifespan: 90 days, per-click.
  • ref — stores a referral code if you arrived via a referral link. Lifespan: 30 days.

2.2 Analytics cookies

These cookies help us understand how the site is used so we can improve it. They are anonymised and not used to identify individual users.

  • _ph_* — set by PostHog (when enabled) to record anonymised product analytics such as pages visited and feature usage.
  • _vercel_* — set by Vercel Analytics (when enabled) to record anonymised page-view and performance data.

2.3 Marketing cookies

We do not currently load Google Tag Manager, Google Analyticsgtag or any third-party advertising scripts on MOT Checkup. If we ever introduce them, this policy will be updated and a consent banner will appear before any marketing cookie is set.

3. Third parties

The following third parties may set cookies via our site. Each has its own cookie and privacy policy:

We do not sell or share cookie data with advertisers.

4. Managing cookies

You can view, block or delete cookies directly from your browser's settings. The exact steps vary by browser — see the help pages for Chrome, Firefox, Safari or Edge.

For an independent overview of cookies and how to manage them, see the UK government's guidance at gov.uk/help/cookie-details and the ICO's guidance at ico.org.uk/your-data-matters/online/cookies.

Disabling essential cookies may prevent you from completing a purchase. Disabling analytics cookies will not affect the functionality of the site.

5. Contact

If you have any questions about how we use cookies, email us at info@motcheckup.co.uk. For broader data-protection questions, see our Privacy Policy.
