What Our MOT Checker Shows You

Everything the DVSA records at every MOT test, presented clearly so you can make informed decisions.

Current MOT Status

Instantly see whether the vehicle holds a valid MOT. The expiry date is shown clearly so you know at a glance if it is legal to drive on public roads.

Complete Test History

Every MOT test from 2005 onwards including pass/fail results, test dates, test station details, and certificate numbers.

Mileage Records

Odometer readings captured at every MOT test. Our checker highlights any suspicious drops or inconsistencies that may indicate mileage fraud.

Failure Reasons

Every item that caused a failure, categorised as minor, major, or dangerous. See the exact wording from the tester's report.

Advisory Notices

All advisories from every test — items flagged as requiring attention but not severe enough to fail. These often become failures at the next test.

Defect Patterns

Repeated failures on the same components are flagged automatically. A pattern of brake or suspension issues tells you more than any single test result.

MOT Checker — FAQ

Common questions about checking MOT status and history online.

How does the MOT checker work?
Enter the vehicle's UK registration number into the search box above. Our MOT checker queries the official DVSA database and returns the full MOT history within seconds — including every pass/fail result, test dates, mileage readings, advisory notices, and the current MOT expiry date. No account or payment is required.
What is an MOT and why does it matter?
An MOT (Ministry of Transport) test is a mandatory annual roadworthiness inspection for most UK vehicles older than three years. It checks safety-critical systems including brakes, lights, tyres, steering, emissions, and bodywork. A vehicle without a valid MOT is illegal to drive on public roads (except to a pre-booked test) and driving without one can invalidate your insurance.
Can I check MOT status for any UK vehicle?
Yes. Our MOT checker works for any vehicle registered in Great Britain, including cars, vans, motorcycles, and motorhomes. It uses the DVSA database which covers all MOT tests conducted since 2005. Northern Ireland vehicles use a separate DVSA NI database and may show limited history.
What does the MOT expiry date mean?
The MOT expiry date shown in our checker is the date by which the vehicle must have passed a new MOT test. If the date has passed, the vehicle does not have a valid MOT and is not legally roadworthy. You can book an MOT up to one month early without losing any days from the existing certificate.
What are MOT advisories?
Advisories are items flagged by the MOT tester that are not severe enough to cause a failure but should be monitored or repaired soon. Common advisories include minor tyre wear, small amounts of play in steering components, or light corrosion. They do not prevent a vehicle from passing, but they indicate areas that may fail in future tests if left unaddressed.
